Potomac Thunder
Potomac Thunder is the husband/wife duo of Tom and Rosemary Lather, playing music of the Civil War era. Potomac Thunder began in 1994, when Tom and Rosemary became involved in Civil War reenacting. Both of them had been playing banjo and violin respectively since childhood, and naturally began to explore music of the period. In time, they found themselves performing in a variety of situations, whether it was playing around the company campfire, a camp dance, or a full fledged concert.

Glimpses into the 19th century
Potomac Thunder represents a musical glimpse into popular musical forms of the 19th century. They released a tape in 1996, and followed that up with a CD/tape in 1999. They have researched the material they record and perform, and play on period or period reproduction instruments. Tom is quite adept at the minstrel “stroke” style of banjo playing unique to the 19th century, having learned from reprints of period banjo tutorials.

Rosemary can play anything on the violin from a Virginia reel to a parlor ballad to a schottische. Their ability and experience as professional musicians enable them to play in a variety of venues, whether it be dinner music, a ball, or a concert.
